IN CHARACTER

Character Name: Eugene
Played-By/Art Claim: N/A

In-Game Tattoo Placement: Over his heart
Current Health/Status: Alive and well.
Age: 24
Species: Human

History: wiki link

Personality:

Snarky and sarcastic, Eugene sees himself as the loveable rogue; handsome, cunning, chock full o’ charm, and good at whatever he puts his mind to (especially crime). But that’s all his incredibly large ego talking. In actuality, he’s not nearly as cunning or competent in areas outside thievery as he thinks he is.

His hubris lies in how self-absorbed and selfish he can be. He tends to put his own desires first, without thinking of the people around him, and he has a Narcissus-level love for himself. You better believe he will absolutely admire himself in the mirror any chance he gets. His egocentric way of thinking has definitely gotten him into trouble many, many times. When he, Rapunzel, and the rest of their party arrive at a spooky magic house, he almost immediately gets dragged into a mirror and replaced by a doppelganger. He’s the first one of the group to get snatched, all because he couldn’t resist checking himself out.

His ego gets in the way in a number of other ways, too. Whenever someone points out his flaws or shortcomings, he will go to absurd lengths to prove them wrong. At the start of the series, Cassandra stops Rapunzel from letting Eugene in on a secret, because Eugene can't keep a secret to save his damn life. Instead of backing off, though, Eugene goes around to all of his acquaintances to try and get someone to share their secrets with him. He puts so much effort into something relatively trivial in the grand scheme of things, and it’s a theme that continues throughout the series. If someone says he’s only good at crime, he’ll take on a dozen different jobs even though he fails at each of them. If someone implies he’s weird for not believing in fortune-tellers, he’ll go out of his way to prove they’re a scam and show he’s right.

Needless to say, Eugene’s confidence is off the charts. He very rarely doubts himself or his abilities. He’s very street smart, and is very competent in the things he knows how to do. He does lack common sense, however, and doesn’t always think things through. This is partly because he thinks of himself first (proposing in a completely inappropriate time and place), but he also just lacks common sense in general. Mix that with his general dislike of authority and rules, and you get someone who shirks his responsibilities and twists rules so they’re in his favor.

As mentioned, Eugene sees himself as very charming and suave--just look at his attempts at using the smoulder. He’ll try to talk his way out of bad situations, even if he’s at a disadvantage. When the Stabbington Brothers break out of jail and come after him, Eugene’s first instinct is to try and talk them down. He's very good at talking. He's just not so great at the convincing part, so it's not often that he's able to talk himself out of anything. He does know how to use his naturally chatty nature to his advantage, though, as a means to distract. In the same situation with the Stabbington Brothers, while his attempt to talk them down fails, he continues to talk at them to buy time for Cassandra to trap them.

At his current canonpoint, Eugene lacks the character growth that meeting and falling in love with Rapunzel has given him. So while deep, deep down he’s not a bad guy, he’s more likely than not to save his own skin over helping anyone else. Especially if the other person isn’t someone close to him.

Eugene is always ready with a one-liner, can be rude and snarky, has an ego the size of a small planet, and doesn’t always have his priorities straight. But he has the capacity to change for the better. He just needs a push in the right direction.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Eugene is pretty dexterous as a thief, and can put up a good fight, but he’s otherwise a normal dude.
